The Paul Acheson Summer Sports Weeks Programme is beginning to employ staff for the summer of 2012, details are now available on the website. The programme is now in its twentieth year and its success relies heavily on the expertise and commitment of the staff involved.
We attempt to create a happy and caring environment for the children who attend each centre and the staff employed over the last nineteen years have been outstanding. Priority will be given to applications from staff who have worked with us during the past two years.
The safety of the children is the foremost priority at each venue and close supervision is essential at all times. Children must be escorted as a group to and from the area where their activity is to take place. Further details about safety, supervision and accident procedures are outlined in our Child Care Policy and Staff Manual which will be sent to successful applicants.

1. Sport – 7-14 years old
There are 14 sports outlined on the website and staff will be expected to have a working knowledge of at least four. Each session will feature coaching and instruction at the start, with plenty of time available for fun and practice. Staff must also be capable of organising a range of indoor sporting activities in case of rain.
2. Art and Crafts and Drama as described on the website for all ages.
A qualified and experienced person is required for each course and the successful applicant will be expected to provide a stimulating and creative programme on a daily basis.
3. Superkids aged 4-6
These children will operate in smaller groups, each supervised by a qualified teacher, with assistants. Applicants must have a genuine interest in children and show an aptitude for working with them. You need to be enthusiastic, patient, creative, imaginative, flexible, compassionate, talented and humorous. If you don’t meet all those criteria, don’t apply! Staff will be required to have some expertise and experience in organising an outdoor sports programme, plus art and crafts and drama, and must be capable of organising a meaningful and stimulating indoor programme in case of rain. Applications from those with a swimming qualification will be particularly welcome.
Preference will be given to applicants who are qualified teachers or who hold a coaching qualification in one of the sports listed.
Applicants who will be given responsibility for the coaching and supervision of any group (ratio 1:20) must be 18 years of age by June 30 2012. Superkids’ Assistants must also be 18 years old.
Applications are invited from 15 year olds to act as helpers. Successful applicants will be required to undertake a range of tasks including lunchtime supervision, assisting with the barbecue and tuckshop, collecting litter, cleaning, and helping coaches in some circumstances.
All staff will be expected to attend a training session to help them prepare for their summer work, and to familiarise themselves with the locations we use. These sessions will take place in late June on dates which can be agreed with the successful applicants.
The amount payable to each successful applicant will depend on the age, experience and qualifications of the applicant and will be outlined in the contract of employment sent to you if your application is successful. Only return the contract if happy with the fee offered.
Staff who receive contracts will need to complete forms for Police and Health checks. These must be submitted to the relevant authority at least six weeks before employment begins, so please bear this in mind when deciding which dates you choose for potential employment.
If you are interested in applying for a position this summer, after checking the web site and reading the above information, then download the application form and send your completed application form to me as soon as possible. If selected, you will receive a contract in due course, and if we are unable to employ you, we will let you know by letter.
